The "Cigüeña" is a remote controlled plane designed for lifting
hang gliders.
As seen in the first video, there is an elevation (hang glider + Cigüeña) where
control is performed only by hang glider pilot. If the pilot of R/C
perform inputs, they have little effect because the Cigüeña control surfaces are
small relative to the hang glider surface. During the ascent the hang glider
pilot has control of throttle and he can also stop the engine without removing
his hands from the control bar. It also has a steel wire attached from pilot
chest release to the fuselage that prevents the pilot approaching the propeller.
Upon reaching 500 m in height and in a position of easy glide, hang glider pilot
releases the aircraft before checking good movement of ailerons and elevators
that are moved by the operator of the R/C. This movement of the controls used to
inform the hang glider pilot conformity of R/C operator in making the release
and also informs the pilot of proper functioning of equipment R/C. After the
release (engine off) the Cigüeña returns to the ground ready to raise another
hang glider.
It was built with much greater precision and refinement, but basically is the
same as I. The same wing profile, the same surface, the same engine, R/C, etc.
I have no website of the Cigüeña. The degree of evolution is seen in this video.
If this way of flying grows, no doubt the method will be refined and the plane
too. I am not offering something really tested, the person who wants to have
this plane should be ready to go slowly learning how it works and willing to
experiment. This is what I can offer today. This is the degree of progress that
I have come today. We all know that is new, this is not a turnkey product. The
ideal operation should be performed with a experienced hang glider pilot and an
experienced R/C operator . Good knowledge in both disciplines are strictly
necessary. I think the ideal place for development is a group of pilots
interested in innovation with the desire to experiment but always taking care of
every detail of security.
I must say that despite being new, the flights I've done were safe and always
felt comfortable the command of the Cigüeña.
Remember that each gear you are using was once an innovation. Someone invented
it, some supporting the new and could be developed for all to enjoy.
