Thomas Suchanek at Rana in the Czech Republic flying his sailplane at the hang
gliding site where we both started flying thirty years ago. The site has very
significant history with flights in basic gliders done as far back as the early 1920's
(perhaps earlier) The Germans used the site for their glider pilot training
during World War II. Czech hang glider pilots rediscovered the site again in the
1970's. Today, it is used by sailplanes, hang gliders and paragliders. It is a
walk up site, no vehicles allowed. It stands as the birthplace of hang gliding
in the Czech Republic.
