Don Marble, 80, who grows cotton near the town of South Plains and
started farming in 1951, said that over his lifetime, “we’ve done some serious
damage to our Ogallala Aquifer.”

“If we don’t do something to try to get some kind of control on how much water
we’re pumping, we may be looking for drinking water,” Mr. Marble added. “It’s
that serious.”

This is where we fly during the Big Spring competition and we fly
over these cotton farms. It is a big deal to us how water is used or not up the
Texas panhandle.
