Hot flying at Quest Air
The incredibly good weather continues here in Florida with the
ready to go for it Quest Air cross country crew looking at Mitch's daily task
board and suiting up. Yesterday Larry Bunner went 98 miles, stopping at the
Williston airfield 60 or 70 miles to the north northwest of Quest Air when
he ran out of clouds and found a blue hole. He spent twenty minutes slowly
climbing up in the blue over the airfield after hitting cloud base at 7,500' two
thermals before and cloud base at 6,500' at the previous thermal.
Finding such a slow climb and a blue hole ahead for twenty miles, he decided to
turn around and fly under the grounds to the south landing at the friendly
Dunnellon airfield, when if he had known he could have gone at least another two
miles.
Today the task is to go around the Green Swamp, about eighty miles. There is a
sport class task also.
Both Mitch and Larry made it around the swamp with Greg Dinauer just a few kilometers short. Larry said there was
convergence om the west side from Dean Still and Rock up to almost interstate 75 and highway 50. This is where
the convergence normally sets up.
