More soon. A good day with at least fifteen pilots in goal. Jonny won the day with Paris
second, and Jonny again takes the lead. Jamie reported quite strong lift out on
the course line. On my second tow I was pulled over to Paris and a gaggle of other pilots
and while I couldn't climb with them, I could get up to over 5,000' in the less
than 200 fpm that we were all climbing in. I then headed off by myself ignoring
the 3:00 PM start gate, as I figured I would be slow on the Falcon anyway. The lift was broken and crappy but basically I had to stay in it and search
around in the lifty areas to find good cores. There were a few which never
seemed to last long and I was always banking up way high just to keep out of the
crap. After getting up again north of La Belle I headed east to find 1000 fpm down. I
was hoping to make it to a reasonable landing area. Down to 500' over a
reasonable area I found weak lift and worked it as the ten mph wind pushed me
into the Babcock ranch and swamp. I didn't find any great lift over the back woods and finally had to land a long
way out from civilization. This prompted a nice long walk out with the glider
and harness which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to the help of the folks working
in the orange grove a few miles to the south I was able to get out before dark.
