http://www.aerosports.net/ecc.html Adam was about to cancel the ECC, but the pilot response to his notice was
powerful enough to keep it happening. Two competitions have been cancelled. These two contests were attempts to expand the competition circuit. The Texas
Shootout was moved from its late May date to July to pair up with the Big Spring
meet to attract additional pilots and get into the better weather. It wasn't
well attended to begin with over the last two years. A valiant effort and a
great place to fly, but it just couldn't attract more pilots. The Midwest Championship was poorly attended in its first year last year (but
you expect that when you start a new competition) and then the weather totally
sucked. Moving the competition to early July was supposed to help with the
weather issue, and coincide with the Big Spring Nationals, but that still didn't
attract more pilots to sign up early. The East Coast Championship has been going along with a small crowd of pilots
for a few years, but hasn't grown. It is the next competition scheduled, ready
to start in early June. Seventeen is a respectable showing but these meets are
expensive to run. The hang glider pilot competition population is not growing or growing very
slowly, and it appears that it can only support four major sanctioned
competitions in the US (which is plenty). Seven would have been nice, but it was
too big a jump too soon, it appears. Nice to see that the smaller USHPA
sanctioned ECC will happen this year. http://ozreport.com/uscompetitiondates.php
