A compilation of scenes from the 6 days I flew at the Santa Cruz
Flats Race 2012. This event was also the 2012 US Hang Gliding Nationals. Gliders
are towed aloft by motorized ultralight aircraft and then they must complete a
course (usually 50-60 miles) in the least amount of time using rising air
currents to stay aloft. The flying can get very close in thermals (rising air)
where "gaggles" of gliders gather to circle and gain height.
