Bulgarian National Hang Gliding Club unites today the largest
number of hang gliding pilots in the country. The veterans in the club started
hang gliding more than thirty years ago. Some of these experienced pilots have
competed internationally. Anton Antonov is still the record holder with 152 km
out and return.

The collapse of socialism disturbed development of the sport, paragliding
prevailed due to cheaper equipment and quicker training. This summer BNHGC
together with Bulgarian National Air Club succeeded in organising the first
Bulgarian Championships for the 21st Century. Teams from Sweden and Russia
participated. Michail Yankov became Bulgarian master in relatively poor flying
conditions. Bulgaria has a good number of excellent mountain launches, a dolly
launch aerotowing was tested and will be used as a launch method in a club

I have grought Scandinavian pilots to Bulgaria each summer since 1992 and we
have had a lot of nice flying with little traffic in the air, big landing fields
and cheap beer :) One more flight from the Vratza ramp start - NW Bulgaria.
