Winch Launching from a Tow HookÂ’s Perspective

An ordinary launch and an extraordinary perspective. This year,
the Soaring Club of Reiselfingen in Germany celebrates the 50th anniversary.
During the past fifty soaring seasons, the club has performed more than 93,000
winch launches.
Nearly every pattern and most of the cross country flights started on
Reiselfingens airfield by latching the 1,000 meter (3,300ft) steel cable to the
glider. Like on many German airfields the diesel powered winch on the other end
of the cable is a home built machine.
Hubert Drescher an experienced and successful XC-pilot prepared a birthday
present for his club by putting an interesting video together: A winch launch
can be watched from the perspective of the CG-hook and by looking through the
cables chute. The cameras views offer a new and unusual perspective on an
everyday take off. Huberts soundtrack outlines some excitement or amusement,
just as you prefer.
Enjoy the fun video
