Currently (but maybe not for long) Chris Zimmerman lives in a
house that he built on a grass airstrip community forty minutes north of Austin,
Texas.

Of course, the house includes a hangar which holds his setup hang glider and his
ultra light trike (Part 103 legal with the USHPA/FAA exemption for towing).

Belinda and I were out there last... mehr

Recently a new Dutch coastal soaring site was opened. It's close
to the Rotterdam Harbour and today eight pilots were able to fly it for the
first time as you can see in the little video I made:

to be a soaring site quite close to this new site, but due... mehr

The flight on the HOLC
here.
I could see on Sunday that the winds would set up great on Tuesday for a single
surface record attempt out of Chris' place west of Georgetown, north of Austin.

It looked like I would have a 20 knot tail wind up into Oklahoma. Cloud base
looked good at 5000' plus, getting higher as the day progressed, with strong... mehr

I was hoping you could give a public shout-out to Steve Wendt. I
attended his scooter clinic in spring of '09 and went home inspired and started
my own hang gliding school.

to get enough students scootering in the... mehr

One of the biggest problems I see is that training hills are
horrible places to learn to land. At your typical training hill, you can't pull

Steve's big complaint on Sunday was that he was working too hard
getting ten pilots in the air. That is he had too much business. The tug was
down, as he had a crack in the radiator, so he was towing them on the platform
tow, pickup truck. Hauling them to 800' to 1000' and nine of them skyed out
getting to over 7,000'.He's has students in... mehr

I have been watching the "how to land" thread on the Oz Report.
While I completely agree with the flare at or just below trim speed discussion -
this all assumes that your glider is trimmed properly! I would appreciate seeing
comments/discussion on how to properly trim the glider so that the flare... mehr

I agree with Jim Rooney’s commentary on emphasizing that coming
into a landing with high speed is a big key to landing success. But one must
carry this speed all the way to just off the deck, into actual ground effect.
(Jim does say this.) A very common problem is what we (Ryan and I) call... mehr

In hang gliding, and especially in landing, there is much old lore
