You want to put on a big competition, say the World Championships (or maybe the nationals). You make some promises to some possible sponsors that you can do it, and they extract some promises from you, like you'll launch from near our town on one of the days. Or the Nationals will be held in a certain spot.

One hang gliding competition that got approved without any controversy is the East Coast Championships. I love this meet. It is so much fun and so challenging and so safe. No Florida competitions were sanctioned at the Fall board meeting of the USHPA. But don't despair as there looks like there will be two USHPA sanctioned meets this Spring in Florida, even likely a Flytec meet. If this season we had a "nationals" in Lakeview, we are going to have even a worse "nationals" in 2009. I just wish that they had scheduled it during the Worlds. I will not be going to it for sure.
