I am a local hangy pilot from Canberra and did two balloon drops
over the Easter weekend. I have been around hot air balloons since I was a kid
and have been flying hang gliders for four years now and after a year of talking
about it I was finally able to live my dream and combine the two...

Ridge. We couldn't be having more fun. Even when it looked like there might be
too much wind or over development it all worked out for our benefit.The...

Not all bad flights end in bad days. It took awhile too get
extracted from the 68,000 acre Blue Head ranch as I had to hike out
approximately six miles to a road. Sue meanwhile found the ranch foreman who
opened the gate and took us back on a more civilized route to get the glider.

I have been remiss in offering my thanks to the Oz Report for

recipient of the fabulous and much sought-after Mug. If other entrants knew or
remembered that I won it I'm sure they would be filled with envy. Bottoms...

I finally had the opportunity to perform the maiden flight of
something I have been working on for little more than a year. As I used to joke
about, I don't know if it's ever going to flight, but just the fun of inventing
it is already more than worth it. Well, now...

http://soaringspot.com/2011rk/http://skyout.blogspot.com/http://flyingjochen.blogspot.com/The RUC and the NAM forecast were calling for six to eight knots of east wind
but the local NWS forecast was calling for fourteen to sixteen gusting to
eighteen, so we came up with a light wind task and a strong wind task.
Fortunately the winds were...

http://soaringspot.com/2011rk/http://skyout.blogspot.com/I'll write this task up before I tackle the second day as the memory gets
flushed after a day of flying and I have to dig deep to remember the day. This competition has been fantastic for our ability to launch and fly safely in
high winds. Today again we had a forecast for sixteen to...

There is vast flooding throughout Colombia which we in the US
don't hear much about especially in the Valle del Cauca, the valley that
includes Roldanillo. I hear that Cali and Roldanillo have been hard hit.CNN story.

country struggles to dig out of the devastation wrought by...

http://soaringspot.comThe weather forecast was not great. The main issue was the
forecast for east northeast winds up to eighteen mph. Pretty windy. Also the
winds would be coming from across Lake Okeechobee, which would mean that the
lift would most likely be greatly suppressed near the flight park. The task committee set a challenging task,...

The king post was dented also, which was the first give away. The keel, both
leading edges, and the cross bars, dented or broken.
Dave May's glider seems to have arrived alright. He was on the same flight from
Sydney as Kathryn. Looks like she might get a Wills Wing U2 to fly.
Oops, additional inspection shows Dave May's leading edge was...

on Thursday getting ready for the big competition. The forecast was for
southerly winds, not too strong, and a 30% chance of thunderstorms. The cold
front that is the cause of all the storm related deaths in Alabama (300+), and
other southern states had reached the east coast...
