This is the track log for Julia from the first day in the same area where I was when I went into airspace. Julia had her Flytec 6030 on the map screen the whole time and she made sure that she was out of airspace:
Notice that SeeYou shows her staying out of airspace just like her 6030 showed her so that she could stay out of airspace. But...

Heather calls the day early as the forecast call for higher winds than yesterday, north, which means that we would be trapped at Mystic or anywhere we launched, and thunderstorms in the forecast for the afternoon. The high today is...

Every where I go I hear the same lament. The HGFA or the USHPA or the DHV does nothing (relatively) to help instructors. Instruction is the key to new members. Instructors are out there on their own fighting the good fight and trying to get new folks into the sport. But the associations are two headed (or multi-headed) monsters, both supposed to...

The German pilot said that he felt that they would get three out of five days flying during any of the German Opens at Altes Lager Niedergörsdorf, so that my estimate at 50% flyable days was a bit too pessimistic. He had done a 340 km triangle there himself.
He also felt that the 2008 world gliding championship had worse weather than was...

I just threw this together tonight, but I've been thinking about how to do it for a while. Basically I'm selling chances at gear and clinics.

After catching up with a few pilots at the Canungra Classic and more recently the Forbes Flatlands, I am hearing that there is quite a bit of interest from guys who are heading up to Dalby and experiencing the flying for them selves. I spoke to Trent Brown today (who is doing fine after he and I had a...

After making the last turnpoint at the Daderang intersection I saw Blay (on a Moyes Litespeed) 1,900' below me (in a Moyes Litesport 4) to the right turning and climbing. Warren (on an Airborne Climax) was 1,000' below me heading for Blay. I was high enough to make it over to the hillside on the east side of the Kiewa valley, but I saw these...

The winds are 9 knots on Mystic Hill launch gusting to 18 knots. After a long wait to see if the winds will die down, the day is called. The day is completely blue.

And a number of them disagree already.
Wesley is using FS and FSFlight to score the meet. FS is the new approved CIVL software for scoring. But it does a pretty poor job when it comes to checking for airspace violations. Here's what part of my flight looked like on day one in FSFlight:
The straight lines are the edges of the airspace. The...

The flight and task.
Finally we flew, and on a great day, worth waiting for.
With the forecast for winds reducing to light winds out of the southeast we head for the north facing launch at Mystic Hill above Bright. The idea is that the thermals coming up the north facing hill (into the sun) will...

Turning off Auto-Calibrate will not help. It might even make matters worse depending upon how it works - which is not explained in the manual. The problem is that the Garmin's with a pressure sensor do not record GPS altitude but instead record Pressure altitude. The two are fundamentally different...

There was a 15 mph wind on launch gusting to 21 mph. The wind was cold. There were long lulls during the day that got us to setup, but the wind was really still there.
The wind tech launch in good launch conditions (light winds right up the launch) but as he headed out he hit an "air pocket" and...

The Flytec 6030/5030/5020 (and comparable Brauniger models) record pressure altitude with respect to standard pressure (1013.25 hPa or 29.92 inHg). This is a requirement for certification and IGC. It also makes sense with respect to air regulations and evaluating altitudes from a scoring...
