Hang gliders in Swiss mainstream roadside advertising. The ad is for a health insurance company, the text says "your insurance shouldn't be more complicated than your hobby". I've been wondering if the pilot in the center (Aeros, Number 33) is aware of the fact that he was plastered all over... mehr

The flight and task.

Similar forecast to the day before. We are looking for OD later in the day, with
isolated thunderstorms. The day starts with a blue sky and it stays that way
until a few clouds appear near noon. Very dangerous as it is an inviting sky
with the prognosis for dangerous conditions later.

We called a 142 km... mehr

With results. So that makes it very hard for them to market the Moyes Litesport (or the Malibu either). Pilots don't naturally choose to fly the Litesport (sport not speed after all) in high level competitions, so there is very little results to point to.
Recognizing this "problem," Gerolf was very... mehr

Just before they came out to Forbes from Rylstone, a strong wind blew through there and picked up Bobby's special new tug and put it in the trees after ripping the engine off it's engine mounts. When the wind died down the Dragonfly landed back on the ground on its wheels. The Dragonfly was tied down to buried concrete cylinders that were pulled... mehr

The day is blessed with light winds and plenty of cumulus clouds. A good day for
a triangle or out and return task after many days of substantial winds. Plenty
of people were doing out and returns. Scott said that he found 600 fpm to 1000 fpm
with lift streets. You could fly 5 km and lose 300' to 600'.

Leroy got caught by a... mehr

Steve McCarthy <<email>> writes:
As the pilot of the tow plane that towed Nick into the dusty/grass devil I had less than two seconds from seeing the severity of this wind to take decisive action. I decided that it was best to hit the dusty square on rather than risk having a glider on tow turning on entry. Nick agreed that this... mehr

The
flight and task.

On day five (Wednesday) the winds died off in the afternoon but there were thick
clouds all day with intermittent rain. It was a good call not to go out to the
tow paddock. Pilots seemed to enjoy a day off. It rained steady in the evening.

On Wednesday the pilots voted for a "rest" day on... mehr

When I caught up with the gaggle just behind Jonny (who was now on his own). I flew right with Gerolf and behind Attila and Michi. You can find the IGC files here (Davis) and here (Gerolf). You can see in the IGC files how close we were.
Starting at 14:42:59 we glide together for 8:42. I glide 10.6 km at 38 mph for an L/D of 12.6:1. Gerolf... mehr

The doctors have told Trent that he can't fly for at least two months. No hitting his head within that time period. He hit is pretty hard. That's why we wear helmets.
Nick Purcell states that he didn't pin off, but was kicked off and the weaklink broke. But he does admit that he went back into the "dust devil" before it kicked him out.... mehr
