He was apparently headed to the pond tucked away in the woods on
the southwest side of the airfield. A Sandhill Crane landed nearby. This guy is
about four foot long. There are two of them in our pond/lake about the same size.
Maybe the other one asked this one to leave.

On Wednesday I took a 43 mile ride on the West Orange Trail.
Coming back south I almost ran into one of these guys missing his head by a few
inches. It was stretched out almost all the way across the paved trail.

It was about three or four foot long with a black rattle and it moved oh so slowly and
didn't seem to be at all disturbed by me... mehr

On Monday we had a strong day with an 8,000' cloud base and light
winds. Perfect for getting around the swamp.Tuesday and Wednesday the forecasts were for northeast winds and we saw the sky
full of cu's. I greatly regret not heading south for Venice on those days.
Without a flying partner I wasn't ready to go. I tried to make up for it on... mehr

town then Big Spring, but one also buffeted by the boom and bust cycling of
fracking, has raised substantial amounts of money for prizes for the Dinosaur

We've been going to Big Spring to run the Big Spring Nationals for
16 years. Now the airport is open to hang gliding year round as long as someone
wants to operate out of it. Bring your trike or Dragonfly.

around the Green Swamp task. The forecast was for light to moderate (7 mph)
north winds from surface to the top of lift. The NAM forecast showed a chance of
cu's. If it shows any chance they were definitively show up. Top of Lift was
supposed to be 8,000'.

The pilots were fighting a strong, 14 mph, northwest wind. Larry
was able to get to over 10,400' climbing quickly at almost 700 fpm. It was an
out, upwind almost 50 km, and back.
