As I reported earlier a number of us have refused to sign the CIVL Sporting Code Glider Certification Statement backed up by Mike Meier at Wills Wing. Instead we provided prototype letters from Wills Wing which essentially reasoned along that lines that all production gliders are prototypes because they have been at least slightly changed from... mehr

The winds were 35 km/h gusting to 53 km/h at 8 AM. Later, at 10 AM they were 25 and 35 respectively. The limit for the meet is 37 km/h. We were sent up... mehr
24.06.2009, The Oz Report
The Hungarian team has filed a protest with the meet director regarding the exclusion of Ferenc from the Worlds. The CIVL appointed jury is considering whether the protest is valid in itself. The local rules refer to complaints and protests but they do not really refer to situations such as this. They mainly relate to scoring issues.
The... mehr

A number of pilots have learned that they have plenty of room to lower their sprogs now that the measurements have been made and they have gone ahead and lowered their sprogs to match the certification specifications (or minus two degrees from those) or the manufacturer's recommendations (within 0.5 degrees of them).
The sprog settings for each... mehr

I've gathered all the relevant rules together.

From the FAI Statutes:
2.4.3.1. Subject to the provisions of Section 1.8. and Paragraph 4.2.2.12., FAI Active Members shall exercise Sporting Powers in their respective Countries, including the right to issue FAI Sporting Licences on behalf of FAI or to... mehr

The wind speed indicator on top reported 34 km/h with gusts to 53 km/h at 8 AM. It was still quiet down in the campground but it did not remain that way for long. It was obvious from the little cu's forming just at the lip of the Chabre that the winds were quite strong at launch level.
The day was called during the weather briefing. It looks... mehr

Give the strong Mistral winds again today we hung out and waited for the weather forecast and Mandatory pilot safety meeting. Both turned out to be useful. The meteo forecaster was quite specific about the local weather and Klaus Holmann, a legendary sail plane pilot who has a local airfield just north of Laragne gave an even more specific... mehr
22.06.2009, The Oz Report
Ferenc Gruber's FAI Sporting License has been withdrawn by the FAI.  Ferenc, the Hungarian pilot involved in the matters referred to earlier, is not being allowed to fly in the 2009 Worlds despite the fact that his association has chosen him to fly for Hungary, because he now does not have a valid FAI Sporting License (as far as CIVL, the... mehr

One of our local pilots created a tool to download airspace maps to your Flytec 6030/5030. I have used this here locally and found it to be helpful. Here is the link http://www.maddyhome.com/ctr/. mehr
19.06.2009, The Oz Report
The meet organizers have downloaded air space Open Air text files to our instruments. Unfortunately, we are finding on the Flytec 6030 (and I assume the Brauniger Plus) that this is causing a "scrolling" or "flashing" display at the bottom of the main display, displaying in turn and very quickly the next waypoint and three... mehr

I've created a ten minute documentary about a friend of mine, Eric Donaldson, on competition hang gliding (the Rob Kells Memorial and the Flytec Race and Rally). Scott Barrett, the designer, and Cameron Tunbridge are flying actual prototype hang gliders here at the Worlds (not those gliders that get defined be omission by CIVL as prototypes). There are three prototype Airborne Rev's and two of them are here.
I'm obligated through journalistic ethics to not reveal too much about the Rev. It is a prototype... mehr
