A mystery of flight is how animals keep from getting discombobulated and ankles-over-elbows as they swoosh around and interact with their environment. For example, scientists wanted to know how flying animals regain stability -- or "arrest the yaw" -- after initiating a turn.
The answer turned out to be...

Day 1 - A 70 km task with a light WSW saw pilots heading to Woolinen. It was a bit crosswind, but the wind was light enough that it didn't matter. 8 pilots made goal with Grant Heaney a lot faster than...

The NAM via Dr. Jack's called for for good lift, but the local national weather service forecast was for clouds all night and mostly cloudy all day with a 20% chance of rain. I knew soon enough that the local forecast was wrong, as there were no clouds in the evening and no clouds that night as an orange moon came up over the horizon. It looked...

The sky looked terrible (stormy) early in the morning and then there was the wind, which wasn't unsafe at a little over 10 mph, but looked like it would be rough getting out of the field. Mark Poustinchian showed up driving in from New Orleans. He hadn't flown his ATOS VR in eighteen months.
By 10 AM the clouds had cleared up, and the blue sky...

The French anti-doping agency, AFLD, said Thursday it may go ahead with disciplinary hearings against Armstrong for allegedly violating international anti-doping rules by leaving a French out-of-competition drug tester cooling his heels...

Dustin will be flying the 154 (the same one I was flying) in Arizona soon for a week, so maybe he'll have something to say about it.
On Wednesday I took the T2C-144 up for a spin, and flew around Quest Air for an hour and a half. It was 9 to 13 mph out of the west, blue with a hard inversion at 4,300'. It was cold, but I was dressed warmly...

This year we've had about 180 pilots and friends provide support to the Oz Report (so far). Last year (over the whole year) we had 300 financial supporters. So there seems to be a bit of a drop off in these "hard times." That's understandable as donations to the Oz Report are discretionary, and some of you may be feeling the pinch of your...

CIVL requires that we check everyone for an FAI Sporting License who wants to compete in a CIVL (FAI) sanctioned competition. Of course, if you don't have a sporting license we can just drop you from the final results sent to CIVL, but it is a favor to the rest of the pilots who want WPRS points (World ranking) to have an FAI Sporting License....
