Above average temperatures are predicted for June, July, and August.
The graphic.
The discussion.
Both oceanic and atmospheric data indicate la Niña conditions continue. Sea surface temperatures are below average along the equator throughout most of the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. Water temperatures below the surface remain below...

For the tin cup month.
It's time to wrap up this begging and get on about the business of wrapping the knuckles of those who are so powerful that they don't have to pay attention to those of us in the trenches. Also to continue to glorify the beauty of hang gliding.
Thanks to all of you who have chosen once again to support Scare and I in our...

I have just finished a series of articles on how the USHPA should proceed with its process of revamping the competition system to encourage more participation by USHPA members in competition. Each one of these articles went out as a separate email to all of the USHPA directors and interested parties to encourage them to think about the issues....

The NY Times article on crocs.
Listed as a federally endangered species in 1975, after hunting and habitat loss nearly wiped it from the wild, the American crocodile has surged to numbers not seen in a century. Today, the population is about 2,000 at the southern tip of Florida, the species' only U.S. habitat, where the U.S. Fish and Wildlife...

For the last year the USHPA has had a petition at the FAA requesting that they be given an exemption to allow Sport Class pilots to tow hang gliders. Exemptions are supposed to be acted on within 120 days, but so far this one hasn't been acted upon. It apparently has been resubmitted and the USHPA is awaiting action on its request.

The Velonews article.
Lance Armstrong says he is outraged over claims that he misbehaved during an out-of-competition doping test in France.
"I did not try to evade or delay the testing process that day. I had just returned from an all day training session, wasnt sure who this French man at my home was, and as soon as the UCI...

I reported back in February about the bug I found in SeeYou that caused problems with Garmin GPSes. This bug has been fixed (I got a beta version right away). They've now released a bug fixed version of their latest release:

Seit gestern ist es auf der ICARO Website zu lesen, der mehrmalige Drachen- und Swift-Weltmeister Manfred Ruhmer wird wieder Drachenwettkämpfe für ICARO fliegen. Das ganze scheint keine verspäteter Aprilscherz zu sein und wird sicher für ordentlich Spannung bei der WM dieses Jahr sorgen. Neben Lance Armstrong wird also auch...

But now the web site and the five times a week mailings are too complex, not including the many other facets of the Oz Report. I used to be able to pay less than $10/month for the web site. Now it's $150/month. I buy it a year at a time to keep the costs lower.
The Oz Report is not a money making operation. Like many news outlets it runs at a...

In this article: http://ozreport.com/12.229#0 I provide eleven concrete suggestions as to how the USHPA can improve and help competition grow. In this article you will also see that I went ahead and created an on-line form of the USHPA competition sanction form that if the USHPA would just put it up on their web site would be a big improvement...

I will be ending this plea for support of the Oz Report within a very few days as we get into April. We don't take your subscription/donations lightly and without them there would not be an Oz Report, as frankly Scare couldn't take the time to do the programming in the background that is needed to keep it running.
Maybe the Oz Report is...

As you are no doubt aware (http://ozreport.com/13.047#3), CIVL has a committee that is supposed to figure out how to deal with altitude measurements in time for the 2009 Worlds. I spoke with British team member Gary Wirdham the other night. Gary is also a commercial aircraft pilot. Gary is aware of all the issues with regard to this issue. Here...

This is what is the current Local Rules for the Worlds:
S7 penalties apply for verified infractions. For the first infraction the pilot will score zero for the day and a further infraction will result in the pilot being excluded from the remainder of the competition.
This is what I have seen that works in real life and would love to see instead...

Malcolm Jones and Wills Wing (Mike and Steve) graciously allowed Jeff and I to sell our various wares at the Wills Wing Days. Thanks to all those pilots and friends at the party who helped us out by purchasing tee-shirts and speed sleeves, and donating to Jeff in exchange for posters.
We were able to raise almost $2,000 during the week and that...

On Saturday, the final day of the Wills Wing Fly-In at Wallaby Ranch, finally the weather turned soarable and pleasant with no chance of rain and light winds (even when it blew out of the west later) so that 245 tows were possible (with only four tugs).
The front had come through the day before, so it was blue and the ceiling was low at 3,500'....
