It gets worse.http://www.ushpa.org/2009/11/what-is-paragliding/
How is hang gliding different from paragliding?A Hang glider has a rigid frame maintaining the shape of the wing, with the
pilot usually flying in a prone position. The Paraglider canopy shape is
maintained only by air pressure and the pilot is suspended in a sitting or
supine...

The USHPA BOD and committees are a bureaucracy, basically divorced
from reality by their structure. What passes for acceptable comment and action
is nothing that you would find in everyday life. Let's look at one example:This is the new look of competition at the USHPA. It was passed Thursday night
at the BOD meeting:
Motion to reorganize...

Key issues the BOD is told that it is addressing:
Ranking and validity system is divisive
Only intense, high-end events are sanctioned
Sanctioning process unstructured
No quality assurance for pilots
Potential USHPA liability
No USHPA support for meet organizers
The BOD solution to the first one is to have a separate ranking
for "open...

The USHPA Focus statement is found here:
http://www.ushpa.aero/policy/SOP-02-01.pdf

His blog post.
Launch looking north. After town the north cliffs begin.
First there's the start: The minimum sink glide to the edge of the start
cylinder is practiced over and over. The cylinder must be crossed within five
seconds of the start time or you're playing catch up the entire race. This year
we flew an exit start 1.5km away from...

What happens when you try to launch unhooked when scooter towing?
Not much. Apparently in this case the tow instructor didn't notice that the
student was not hooked in, even though the instructor was using a turn around
pulley and was sitting on the scooter next to the student. The sequence as a
Microsoft Power Point slide show.

Mike Haley states
here:
Many, if not most, top comp pilots do not face true financial
hardship.
What is "true" financial hardship? How does Mike know if this statement is true or not? Has he surveyed the
competition hang glider pilots? Has he looked at their tax returns?I just find this statement to be remarkably ignorant. If he had...

Can we measure our proposals against our goals and see if they
are headed in the right direction?
Mike Haley states
here:
Moreover, such an assurance could justify higher sanctioning fees
for competitions which could be used to fund other parts of the program, if
desired.
So Mike wants to charge higher sanction fees, seeing sanctioning...

Mike writes
here:
USHPA needs a consistent and fair way to measure altitude for
scoring competitions.
This has not been an issue for hang gliding competitions in the
US. Why are we even discussing it? It was an issue in Europe at the 2009 Worlds
(and previous comps). It is an issue at the Bogong Cup in Australia. But we
could care less about...

Moreover, to correct some current misinformation, the members of
the CWG itself have not particularly believed for months now that the CWGs own
first draft system (presented at the Fall, 2008 BoD) is particularly the way to
go, though the CWG has only recently begun assimilating and reporting its
findings, giving...

Through an ongoing discussion with a Competition Workgroup Member
it has dawned on me
Why is there no goals statement that accompanies the proposed
changes from the USHPA Competition Workgroup to the USHPA Competition Program? I
would suggest that it is because there are conflicting goals and if the goals
were made explicit then the...

you'll notice that the USHPA BOD is scheduled for the 12th through the 14th. It wasn't always
that way. In fact until Monday, the BOD meeting was scheduled for Friday and
